Safe haven laws are by and large a good thing.  Someone who gets pregnant and decides that they can’t deal with the baby can carry it to term and drop it off at a safe haven (usually a hospital or fire station) with no questions asked.  Prevents abortions and keeps newborns from being dumped into trash bins.  Nebraska, on the other hand, has a unique take on the matter.  Their safe haven law apparently allows a caregiver to drop off MINORS at safe haven locations with no questions asked!  MINORS!  This story talks about a 15 year old who is dumped at a hospital in Omaha.  What is more disturbing is that this particular child IS THE 21ST CHILD dropped off under the law!!!  Are you fucking kidding me?!!?!!?  Who goes 15 years into the life of a child, only to give up and effectively put the kid up for adoption.  Naturally, I’m sure that the older kids who are dropped off can likely be classified as “difficult” or some other such description.  But way to shirk your duties.  Not to mention that at that age, there’s no way that the kid doesn’t know what’s going on.  If the kid is something of a screw up to begin with, there is no way that this could possibly help their mental state.  At least Nebraska legislators seem to be leaning towards revising the law, so that it will only apply to newborns, but how fucking stupid do you have to be to overlook something like this in a situation where there are many examples available to study?
